Or. Mindoro and Palawan post highest crime volume among areas in MIMAROPA Region

CALAPAN CITY – Oriental Mindoro and Palawan provinces among the areas of MIMAROPA (Mindoro-Marinduque-Romblon-Palawan) Region recorded the most number of crimes from January to June of this year.

Meanwhile, and based on the 2014 first semester (January to June) total crime volume reported by the Philippine National Police – Region 4B office, if such crimes against persons, properties and others will be put in to average, Puerto Princesa City will be accounted for the most crimes happened monthly with 156.46 incidents.

According to the report released by Police Supt. Imelda V. Tolentino, information chief of PNP-Region 4B office, although the total 11,201 crime incidents or cases collated from the region’s official PNP blotters, barangay blotters and those from other law enforcement agencies reflects the peace and order situation as “generally peaceful” as compared from other regions such as the National Capital Region (NCR) and Visayas, what is significant here is the fact that officially, the government somehow minimized the occurrence of criminalities from last year’s record, which pegged at around 200 average incidents per month.

From January to June of this year, the reported total crime volume in Oriental Mindoro province is 2,175 with the lowest ranking of average monthly crimes however of “only” 43.61.  Next on list with the most total number of crimes is Palawan with 2,173 or 44.36 incidents per month (rated second).

Of the six areas of operation (AOR) of PNP-MIMAROPA, under Regional Director Chief Supt. Dennis J. Peña, ranked third in total crime volume is Puerto Princesa City with 2,127 (156.46 per month), Occidental Mindoro province ranked fourth with 2,022 or 67.72 per month, Marinduque fifth with 1,895 (131,02 crimes monthly) and Romblon last with 809 crimes reported for the last six months or 44.88 monthly average.

On details, for index crimes or those crimes against persons such as murder, homicide, physical injuries and rape, and properties like robberies, theft, carnapping and cattle rustling, the province of Oriental Mindoro still topped the list in MIMAROPA areas with 1,054 total index crimes, next is Palawan province with 887, Puerto Princesa City with 796, Occidental Mindoro (740), Marinduque (410) and Romblon (330).

Physical injuries for crimes against persons and theft for crimes against properties are still the leading officially reported crimes for the same period.

And based on the said PNP report, Romblon is still the most relatively peaceful area in MIMAROPA Region. (By JUANCHO R. MAHUSAY)
