CALAPAN CITY – The 15-megawatt bunker-fired diesel power plant project here, which is being envisioned to supply the remaining energy requirements in the said island province of Oriental Mindoro, is now announced to be expected to be commissioned in December this year.
Last Sunday, April 13, DMCI Power Corporation president Nestor Dadivas announced, “We are targeting commissioning of the power plant in December.”
Last year, DMCI Power, a subsidiary of Consunji-led DMCI Holdings Inc., won the contract for the construction and operation of the power facility, besting 7 other bidders. The contract has a term of 20 years.
According to bulletin published here by the Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Ormeco), the P1-billion power plant will supply the energy requirements of the said power cooperative.
In 2013, DMCI Power also won the contract to supply fuel for the diesel power plant of National Power Corporation (Napocor) in El Nido, Palawan.
El Nido is a popular tourist destination in the Philippines, hailed by CNNGo for its beaches, marble cliffs, and limestone formations.
Dadivas stated “DMCI is now supplying one megawatt to El Nido via rental agreement with Napocor for 9 months, boosting Palawan’s primarily industry – tourism.”
He added, “We now provide power 16 hours a day from 2 pm to 6 am when demand is high. It allows resorts to charge higher room rates with aircon availability.”(By JUANCHO R. MAHUSAY)
