Oriental Mindoro being eyed to be the Region 4Bs’ ‘dairy capital’

Calapan City — Now, it is the time of Oriental Mindoro to be a capital of sort in Region 4B, covering the provinces of Mindoro (Oriental and Occidental), Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan or MIMAROPA.
Oriental Mindoro 2nd District Congressman Reynaldo V. Umali bared over the weekend that the said island province, already the center of economic and business activities in MIMAROPA, is now being eyed as the future “dairy capital” of Region 4-B.
According to Congressman Umali, who has been working closely with the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) at the University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB) to develop the dairy industry in the province, he has already signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the purpose together with PCC head Arnel del Rosario, PCC operations head Annabelle Sarabia, and Mayor Hercules Umali of Bongabong town (and Mayor Ronaldo Morada of Bansud, both in Oriental Mindoro.
Under the MOA, 39 carabaos were distributed by the PCC in the two Oriental Mindoro towns as the initial batch for the development of dairy farms in the area.
The PCC has pledged another 100 carabaos for this project and the second batch of carabaos for distribution will be in other towns in the 1st District of Oriental Mindoro to be identified by Umali.
Oriental Mindoro Governor Alfonso Umali Jr., brother of the congressman, expressed support for the endeavour and optimism in attaining the goal of MIMAROPA being the new dairy capital.( By JUANCHO R. MAHUSAY)
