P336.5M worth of infra projects up for 2nd district of Oriental Mindoro

CALAPAN CITY – A total of P336.5 million worth of “big time” 33 infrastructure projects are either being implemented or set for implementation for the whole of this year in seven municipalities covering second district of Oriental Mindoro.
At the same time, the Southern Mindoro District Engineering Office (SMDEO), the district office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Oriental Mindoro, has reported that all 15 of the biggest projects under their 2013 Regular Infrastructure Projects were all completed.
These include four of the five flood control projects under calamity fund, which were already completed and one in progress as of this February 2014.
In a consolidated report submitted to DPWH Secretary Rogelio L. Singson by SMDEO District Engineer Magtanggol C. Roldan and Assistant District Engineer Annielyn E. Padullo, it stated that fund allotted last year for infrastructure and public works projects have all been spent up to the benefits of people living in the municipalities of Pinamalayan, Gloria, Bansud, Bongabong, Roxas, Mansalay and Bulalacao, all in Oriental Mindoro province.
For this year, the P336,508,000 worth of “high impact projects,” or those public works which are of immediate positive effects on the people, are now being done expeditiously particularly the 33 big infrastructure projects.
In detail, the report stated there 22 school building projects were completed and one still in progress, while being implemented are additional six school building projects which are still in progress, together with 42 water and sanitation facilities on different schools scattered in the seven stated towns.
Engr. Roldan also reported to Secretary Singson that they have ongoing concreting project at the area of Calapan South Road in Bagong Sikat, Bulalacao to completely pave this section, and 31 road concreting projects under the Department of Agriculture (DA) is also being implemented to address the needs of farmers in the far flung areas of the district.
The DPWH officials have also stated in the report that also part of their 2014 Regular Infra Projects, which were already awarded and set for implementation are 24 public works and infrastructure projects.
Among these are 19 flood control projects on major river basins along the municipalities of the said district, three major repair/maintenance of bridges, and a rehabilitation of national road part there.
As this developed, Oriental Mindoro Governor Alfonso V. Umali, Jr. has approved a budget of P269.7 million to finance rehabilitation, maintenance and construction of various infrastructure projects in the whole province for 2014.
Provincial Engineer Elmer V. Dilay said the fund allocations have been earmarked for projects under the general public, infrastructure support to economic and social services sectors, and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
Dilay said bulk of the fund goes to road development projects totaling to about P144 million, while P9 million will be used for rehabilitation and maintenance of existing roads for the two congressional districts, P43 million will be for the repairs and construction of day care centers, public hospitals, water system, and health centers.
Flood control projects in the whole Oriental Mindoro will have P20 million from the said fund. (By JUANCHO R. MAHUSAY)
