Palawan inmates protest bad jail conditions

The more than 400 inmates of the Palawan Provincial Jail are up in arms and now conducting protest action since the dawn of last Tuesday (October 5) over the alleged “sub-human” conditions the detainees are experiencing inside the said facility.

In a radio reports from Puerto Princesa City in Palawan, the inmates are reportedly started their protest action at about 3:49 AM.  They are demanding to talk to Palawan Governor Abraham Mitra regarding their plight there.

Accordingly, the said prisoners complained of bad food and water in the jail, as well as alleged over-strictness by some of the jail guards.

As part of their protest move, many of the inmates brought out white blankets where they wrote their demands.

As of presstime, the report said provincial officials have started talks with the inmates to address their concerns.(By JUANCHO R. MAHUSAY)
